From Sweet to Bitter Coffee: How My Taste Changed
I started drinking coffee mainly for the sweetness and syrup. Over time, I began enjoying the coffee’s own aroma and flavour, with espresso and milk becoming my everyday choice.

Starting with the Sweetness
When I first started drinking coffee, the sweetness was a big part of what I enjoyed. The sugar, the syrup, and the sweet flavour were usually what caught my attention.
I wasn’t thinking much about the coffee’s aroma or how the coffee itself tasted. I was more interested in enjoying a sweet drink with coffee in it.
Slowly Noticing the Coffee Itself
Over time, I started becoming more interested in the aroma and taste of the coffee. Those became things I looked forward to as well.
As I paid more attention to them, I started feeling that too much sugar or syrup could cover up the coffee flavour. Sometimes, the sweetness became the main thing I could taste, even when I wanted more of the coffee to come through.
It was a gradual change. The sweetness used to be what attracted me to the drink, and slowly, the coffee itself became a bigger part of why I enjoyed it.
Espresso and Milk Is Still My Everyday Choice
I still don’t drink Americanos or straight espresso shots. For everyday coffee, I think espresso with milk is the combination I enjoy most.
I like being able to taste the coffee while still having milk in the cup. That suits my taste, and it’s what I prefer to make for myself on a daily basis.

Espresso and milk, my everyday choice.
I used to look forward mainly to the sweetness. These days, I also look forward to the smell of the coffee and that first sip where I can actually taste it.
